The Sharp Master for Speed Skaters
Significance to speed skaters…
“Sharp skates are a prerequisite to winning competitions. They must be sharpened perfectly, i.e. exactly square and without burrs. I regularly sharpen my own skates on a jig, especially right before a competition. What annoys me most is that I cannot sharpen them right before the start of a race. Warming-up actually dulls the skates a little. Also, if a small burr appears, there is nothing you can do about it at such short notice. If I had the chance to give my skates ‘a repeat sharpening’ right before the start, that would be the ideal situation for me.”
The answer: Sharp Master
With the Sharp Master you can get your skates into tip-top condition even 1 minute before the race. Sharp Master is a sharpening tool that allows you to repeat sharpen your skate with a few moves and without taking it off.
The Sharp Master sharpens exactly at right angles, because its patented design contains magnets which hold the blade square to the grinding stone. Although you sharpen each skate separately with the Sharp Master, the symmetry of the skates is preserved. This is because equal force is exerted on both blades.
The Sharp Master shaves off less material than a jig, so differences are less likely to occur. Furthermore, the surface structure of the sliding surface is smoother than that produced with a jig, because the grinding is done with a fine grain and perfectly straight. For optimum results, the Sharp Master should be dragged across the skate 10 times. The deburring plate should be used on the last stroke.
The Sharp Master was developed by John Oudt, a former top skater himself. These days, John puts his passion for technique, quality and skating to good use developing products that help skaters to improve their performance.
